美式英语和英式英语的区别

How to understand the differences between UK and US English 长裤是trousers或是pants? 男的说的是美式英语但是发的却仍是英式语音。

(A Man walks into café where the Woman is sitting eating a bag of crisps and drinking Coke)

M: Hey! Nice pants! W: (shocked) Excuse me?

M: I said nice pants. W: You can’t see my pants, can you? M: Of course I can. W: How can you see my pants? M: They’re on your legs!

W: Ha! You haven’t been to America recently, have you?

M: Well I er! I have actually! I just got back from LA! (That’s “Los

Angeles” by the way....)

W: I know.

M: Yeah – I picked up some of the American words, and now I forgot

which ones to use! So confusing!

W: Well, we call these ‘trousers’ in Britain.

M: Ah, of course we do...You know there are so many things though –

it’s like a completely different language sometimes!

W: Really? M: Yeah

W: Would you like a crisp?

M: Crisps? In the States, they’re “chips”!

W: Oh. So if I want to order our chips in America, what do I ask for? M: French fries! W: I see... M: And you know what that is, don’t you?

W: A fizzy drink. M: That’s a “soda”!

W: Hmm M: You know the lift over there? W: Yeah? M: That’s an elevator.

W: Oh really?

M: You know in the States, you don’t go to watch a film... W: You “watch a movie”!

M: Exactly! And you don’t walk on the pavement...

W: You walk on the “sidewalk”! M: You got it!

W: I’ve watched a lot of films...oops...movies!
