Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Only movies which can teach us something about real life are worth watching.

In general, watching movies has become a major tool for entertainment and relaxation. Through different types of movie, we can see various characters and stories that are distinguished and meaningful from different aspects. However, the most successful and popular ones aren’t always telling story about real life and, conversely, most of them are based on plots that are hardly related to our daily life. So, I cannot totally agree on this statement.

First of all, the history of movie industry proves that the movies, subject to real life, though highly welcomed in the past years, are now not that valuable for audience to see. Nowadays, one primary purpose for seeing a film is to relax and get one’s mood eased. Movies, shot to tell all kinds of stories, from science fiction to detective novel, from documentation to adventures of cartoon characteristics, are produced to satisfy audiences’ intention to have fun. Even if these types may tell nothing about things that may happen in our life, they are worth a shot because they are just funny and beneficial enough to make us laugh. Therefore, I suppose that a movie does entertain the audience though it is unreal.

What’s more, study has shown that the meaning of a movie can change if someone plans to see a film in different feelings. This research was conducted by professors in this field from Peking University, and they found that if an individual seated in a same theater seeing one movie under different emotions, the feelings he gets from this piece of work may vary. After a man has just done a large quantity of works and tasks, he will possibly look for rest and he tends to be relaxed and worrying about nothing about the content of the film being projected. If he has already seen this film and feel confused by the organization and the hidden information of the plot, he will be fully concentrated when seeing it. In the former experiment, the subject may only achieve calmness and peace; while in the latter one, he may learn something important about life. He is satisfied in both of the experiments and thinks that the movie is worth watching. Henceforth, the meaning of a movie varies under different condition and whether it, which tells nothing about the real life, is worth trying is uncertain until somebody has seen it.

In a word, what judges the value of a single piece of movie is complex because of the variation of feeling of audiences. We can know how mighty and brave humans can be seeing the scene of battle in the Lord of the Ring when we’re beaten; we may know the importance of sacrifice seeing the scene that Neo combine Smith and himself to eliminate the endless cycle in Matrix when we are in a dilemma; we are able to know the power of love in the movie Beauty and the Beast if we see it accompanied by our lovers. Every film has its unique meaning if we are willing to discover it.
